The 3 Requirements For A Successful 2026 Maker Social Strategy

You've given the social media Maker space a shot in 2025, but the growth you were hoping for didn't happen.

It's easy to blame the algorithm, an overcrowded niche, or not having the "right" equipment, but those are excuses. The algorithm just cares about showing people content they care about, if the niche was truly overcrowded no one new would ever appear, and your phone has all the equipment you need. What you were really missing in 2025 was an effective strategy.

Tips and tactics will only get you so far if your strategy doesn't have a solid foundation, which requires 3 things for 2026.

Requirement 1: Post Consistently

Most people starting out post 1 video 7 times per month and wonder why they aren't growing.

If you only show up a couple of times per week, you're not giving yourself a chance to get in front of more people. Find a posting rhythm that works with your schedule and stick to it no matter what. Shoot for consistency over volume at first because it's better to post twice per week like clockwork than randomly.

Yes, we're making our content for people, not robots, but both people and algorithms like consistency because it can be predicted.

Requirement 2: Talk To The Camera

With the rise of spam accounts and AI video, audience distrust of "influencers" is at an all time high.

Combat the worry of your videos being AI by talking to the camera. Don't worry about the 2024 "retention editing" advice, your word fumbles, weird pronunciations, umm's, and uhh's wouldn't be present in an AI video, so use your humanity as an advantage. You're going to hate the sound of your voice and be terrible at it at first, but don't worry everyone was (just watch any big Maker's first YouTube video and compare it to their latest).

Don't let something as insignificant as insecurity about being on camera keep you held back from talking to the camera.

Requirement 3: Focus On Why

I made the mistake of focusing my content on what I was doing over why.

Yes, what you're doing is cool, but why you do it matters much more. Even the steps you explain you go through for a build are better when you say why you do something not just what you are doing. You don't have to be philosophical about it either, just why a particular build means something to you.

Your video is what you do, but talk to the camera about why you're doing it.
