The Best Advice From K-Pop Demon Hunters For Maker Business Owners

Unless you've been living under a rock, K-Pop Demon Hunter has taken over the world and I'm finding more reasons to love it.

Not only are the songs super catchy (don't lie and say you've not jammed out to Soda Pop by yourself in your car), but the messages are amazing and apply to Maker Business Owners as well. You're probably expecting either the uplifting message from Golden or the hype up from Takedown or How It's Done, but I have a different favorite:

What It Sounds Like.

"I broke into a million pieces and I can't go back, but now I'm seeing all the beauty in the broken glass. The scars are part of me, darkness and harmony. My voice without the lies, this is what it sounds like."

Every business owner gets to their low point and feels broken into a million pieces.

As Makers, we've all been at the part of the project where all the pieces are on the table and you see things differently than you initially had in your head. Some of my favorite projects drastically shifted when something broke (for Star Wars builds, just make it damage and part of the weathering). It's also been said that the difference between a beginner and an expert craftsman is knowing how to hide your crimes.

The things you have to fix or highlight (the scars) are what make you a better Maker, and the same applies to the business side as well.

"Why did I cover up the colors stuck inside my head?"

This was my biggest mental unlock that made me excited about Making things again when I got burned out.

I got tired of building the same home decor and shop projects you see 10,000 other people build online. There's nothing wrong with them, but they weren't me. I didn't want super clean shop furniture or cabinets, I wanted it to look like Star Wars.

Embracing the nerdiness and building themed projects brought my Maker spark back, so lean into what you're into.

"I should've let the jagged edges meet the light instead"

Social media (especially Instagram as much as I love it) is often where we put the best things.

But the parts of any story where growth happens is in the messy, jagged areas of life. Gandalf doesn't graduate from The Grey to The White in a clean library, but when fighting the Balrog starting at the Bridge of Khazad-Dum. Luke truly didn't start becoming a great Jedi on Degobah training with Yoda (not that the swamp was clean), but when Vader cut his hand off in Cloud City.

Don't hide the jagged edges, but show them off because that's where your Maker and Business Owner "growth unlock" really came from.

Also, yes, we covered Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and K-Pop Demon Hunter all at once, high five!

"Show me what's underneath, I'll find your harmony. The song we couldn't write, this is what it sounds like."

It's the messiness that builds who you are, so show it off.
