3 Reasons Writing Is Overpowered In The Age Of AI

AI

As more people jump on the AI wave, many might think that writing is an outdated skill from the 2010’s.

Those people are dead wrong.

Writing is already becoming the next skill that every successful business will look for when hiring candidates (even if they don’t know it yet). Just like Excel proficiency has become mandatory for every corporate job and coding or scripting is a meaningful bonus, writing will be what sets you apart from the candidate pool today and a requirement in the coming months. Many companies are already asking about it in different ways such as effective written communication and AI proficiency.

So here are 3 of the reasons that writing is now an overpowered skill to develop in the age of AI.

Reason 1: Lazy Creators Will Let AI Write For Them

We’ve already seen the massive influx of “AI slop” on every platform that words are read.

As “AI slop” expands further into the scripts that video creators also read from, the line between human and Ai writing is blurred even more. Millions of 100% AI written posts appear on every platform every day and audiences are getting smarter and more judgmental when it’s spotted. Those who can write for themselves will rise above the majority.

That’s not to say you shouldn’t use AI at all in your writing, but keep one hand on the wheel by reading and editing the draft that AI produces for you at the very least.

Reason 2: Prompts Are A Writing Skill

Every large language AI model interacts with us through writing.

In 2026, a good prompt isn’t 2 sentences and a hope that the model produces what you’re looking for. Some of the best prompts that I’ve seen from writers are pages long. In order for the AI model to understand exactly what you want, exactly what you don’t want, and produce the best possible results for you, you must write effective prompts so that it and you get better together.

Prompts are written, so writing can only improve the effectiveness of your prompts.

Reason 3: Writing Clarifies Your Thinking

If we’re working with AI anyway, why do we need to clarify our thinking with AI?

AI is an amazing tool, but it still cannot read your mind. The best and worst thing about AI is that it does exactly what you tell it to do, so your thoughts must be clear to get clear results out the other side. Your initial thought and final thought might be miles apart once you’re able to clarify exactly what you think about a particular topic and why.

For bonus points, have entire conversations with AI to help clarify your thinking by leveraging the ability to tell AI to give you ruthless feedback and push back if it disagrees with you.

As AI becomes even more expansive and engrained in most of what we do, being able to effectively communicate will be the best skill you can develop.
