4 Steps To Figure Out What Value Your Audience Needs

Most creators guess at what their audience wants and then wonder why their content doesn't take off.

They assume that because they find something interesting, their audience will too. Or they copy what bigger creators in their space are doing without ever checking if that content is actually resonating with anyone. The result is months of effort producing content that gets polite engagement at best and crickets at worst.

The best way to figure out what value your audience actually needs isn't complicated, but it does require intention.

Step 1: Stop Assuming, Start Listening

The fastest path to understanding your audience is to go where they already are and read what they're already saying.

Platforms like Instagram, Twitter/Threads, and even the YouTube comment sections of larger creators are goldmines. People aren't shy about what frustrates them, what confuses them, or what they wish existed.

Step 2: Pay Attention To The Questions, Not The Compliments

Compliments tell you what people liked. but questions tell you what they still need.

When someone comments a question, that is the audience handing you your next topic on a silver platter. Keep track of questions that show up more than once across content and test it out in another piece.

Step 3: Test Small Before Going Deep

Before spending hours on a long-form article or a full video, test the concept somewhere low-stakes first.

A short post on Twitter/Threads or a story can quickly tell you whether an idea has legs. If it sparks conversation or questions of its own, that's the signal to go deeper.

Step 4: Ask Directly

This one sounds obvious and gets skipped constantly.

If you have an email list (which you should), ask your list what their single biggest struggle is right now. People are generally willing to tell you exactly what they need if you simply ask.

Your audience will always tell you what they need if you're paying close enough attention to hear it.
