5 Ways To Start Dominating Your Week Instead Of Playing Catchup
For almost a decade, I started every week already feeling behind.
It didn't matter whether it was personal life, side hustle, or corporate job, everything felt either stuck or late. When my wife and I had kids, it only got worse as even more pulls came for time. I got trapped looking for time to magically appear instead of making time.
Fortunately, between some helpful books and YouTube creators, I found 5 ways that help dominate the week.
Way 1: Don't Wait Till Monday
Most people start Monday morning getting caught up on where they need to be, but most people also feel behind and overwhelmed.
Instead of watching too much Netflix on Sunday, take advantage of the time to get hold of your week. It's much better to plan when you're not in the thick of the storm and have clarity.
If you're like me and keep your full-time. job out of your weekend, get ahead on your personal and owned business side on Sunday, but block out some time early Monday morning for the rest.
Way 2: Zero All Your Inboxes
Email can feel overwhelming with the constant inflow, so tame it by starting the week with a zero inbox.
This doesn't mean that you've dealt with everything, but helps redefine the inbox to be for things that you haven't identified what (if anything) needs to be done. For me, I have email inboxes across 5 email accounts plus an inbox for tasks and notes that all get emptied and organized before I start the week.
Way 3: Clean Up Projects & Tasks
I used to constantly stress that I was missing something important and there's enough anxiety without adding anymore.
Now that your inboxes have been cleared, take a quick peak at your outstanding projects and tasks. I find that some tasks were completed but not checked off, or that a project doesn't need to be a priority and can be move to "someday/maybe" instead.
Way 4: Sync Your Goals
Goals are amazing ways to give your effort direction, but we can't loose sight of what we're aiming for.
Every week, I review my long-term, annual, quarterly, and monthly goals then set my 3 goals for the upcoming week. For weeks that end one of the longer-term timelines, I'll also set those as needed and work down to the week again.
Way 5: Set This Week's Non-Negotiables
Everything so far has been about not feeling behind, but now we're going to focus on getting ahead.
Start with this week's goals and your calendar to create a plan and make time to achieve the goals. Identify exactly what you're going to do no matter what first, so that everything else can fill in around them.
