The Number 1 Key To Consistency For Aspiring Entrepreneurs
We're two thirds through January and many people have already discarded their 2026 goals.
For aspiring entrepreneurs, these goals are more than just not eating junk food and watching less Netflix. Aspiring entrepreneurs have big dreams and goals, but mountains of work to get there. January has most entrepreneurs shooting to be consistent because successful business owners are dangerously consistent.
Fortunately, when we slip up on our consistency goals, there is a cure.
The Key: When You Miss, Don't Just Stop
Once we miss a step in consistency, most unsuccessful people spend 2 weeks beating themselves up, then discard the goal completely.
Guilt and shame are powerful forces that we believe keep us from coming back. After all, if we were really cut out for this, we wouldn't have made a mistake and forgotten to post or hit our out reach goals, right? But think about what would be worse: missing 1 day or letting that 1 missed day derail your goal for a month?
The easy path is to wallow in self-misery and guilt about missing for "just another day," but when that happens, most people refuse to bounce back.
Whether You Get Back Or Stop, The Habit Is Built
Whether we like them or not, our habits are a reflection of who we are.
You're building a habit no matter what you do, but you get to decide which habit is strengthened: the habit of quitting or the habit of bouncing back. I think back to the Batman Begins line: "Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves back up." Successful people don't let something tiny compared to their goals set them back, but rather learn the habit of picking themselves back up.
Consistency isn't just about showing up every single day no matter what—life happens sometimes—rather, it's about being dedicated enough to show back up the next day after missing.
Don't just take my word for it, listen to James Clear, Author of "Atomic Habits."
"Missing once is an accident. Missing twice is the start of a new habit"
