4 Integrated Lighting Options For Content Creators To Liven Video Backgrounds

We all know lighting is a great way to increase the quality of your videos, both shorts on Instagram and long-form on YouTube.

However, most of us also need to be able to work in our filming space even when the camera is off. Setting up lighting before every video takes considerable time to get right (and consistent across videos). Plus, stands and cables take up valuable room, cause tripping hazards, and don’t look good for you.

Instead of creating a studio to shoot in, give some extra thought to how the lighting can be integrated into the room and furniture, saving both time and effort every time.

Option 1: Under Shelf Strips

Shelf lighting is no stranger for YouTube backgrounds, but for good reason.

Even bookshelves from IKEA can easily add LED strips under each shelf. By spending a little more, color can also be used to help create the mood you want either for entire videos or for specific places in the video.

Option 2: Wall Panels

I cannot stand regular overhead lighting (and it looks terrible on camera anyway), so why not add some lighting panels to the side of furniture or a wall?

Most lighting for video is from a side instead of overhead anyway and the larger the light, the better. Star Wars fans who lean toward the Imperial aesthetic will love this by adding some shape to the panels too.

Option 3: Stylized Wall Sconce

Wall sconces might seem old fashioned, but think about how they could be stylized.

A quick glance at photos from Galaxy’s Edge will show wall sconces in a variety of stores and shops throughout Batuu. They can either provide soft accent light that glows or stylized vertical light that can help fill some empty space.

Option 4: Glowing Objects

Once your space is lit well, we need to think about how to accent it a little more and add a splash of color.

Objects are great candidates to introduce specific lighting and even better if the light at least seems to come from the object itself. The key for these is to be bright enough to be seen, but subtle enough not to distract from you in the video.

Lighting is necessary for quality video, but building it into the room will make it feel more purposeful than having lights clipped just to film.
